Standard porcelain mug with seaweed design and flashing in wood ash glaze
This is a standard porcelain mug with a light cobalt seaweed pattern with small areas of iron coming through the wood ash glaze. This particular mug demonstrated the effects when firing with gas in a reduction atmosphere. Where yellow, showing the glaze has oxidised and blue when it has reduced. The flash of oxidation on this one really adds something.
My wood ash glaze is made with the wood ash sourced from a local boat builder. This wood ash can change from each batch of pots, making each piece one of a kind. Gas fired to 1300 degrees.
